Ironic Argument Against Debate Teams

ImageDebate is a seemingly prestigious and intellectual pastime, but has anyone stopped to think about this? Debate teams teach children to argue for or against a subject, no matter what they actually believe. Our lawyers and politicians are key people in our society when it comes to law making and are taught to lunge at one another full force in these types of clubs. The debate is all about the win, and cares nothing for true justice. On one hand, I suppose it does teach a person to consider the other side of an argument. On the other hand, why are we not teaching children how to compromise and deploy diplomacy? We don’t need debaters, we need mediators, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. So, I ironically argue that we do away with debate teams.
